Artist Residency Program
Who We Serve
We invite artists of all disciplines to apply for a two-week, self-directed residency at Graylag Nature Preserve in rural New Hampshire. This residency offers artists uninterrupted time to create while immersed in a breathtaking natural setting. Residents will have access to miles of hiking trails, a serene waterfront, and a private cabin that includes a kitchen and bathroom. Residents will be housed in a fully furnished intimate cabin nestled among the trees.
At Graylag, artists will enjoy a special opportunity for reflection and inspiration. Resident artists will find themselves within a living palette built from the deep hues of Wild Goose Pond, blushing sunsets, vibrant prairie blooms, delicate woodland flora, and an otherworldly bog ecosystem offering unique creative possibilities. Beyond visual beauty, Graylag’s wild spaces create a multisensory experience through changing light, seasonal transitions, plant textures, and the constant activity of pollinators, birds, and wildlife.
Whether sketching the architectural form of a pitcher plant, photographing the last gasp of evening light, or finding metaphor in the adaptability of native species, artists will discover that Graylag’s thoughtfully cultivated spaces serve as both sanctuary and muse for creative exploration across all mediums.
We welcome applications from artists at any stage of their career—emerging, mid-career, or established—worldwide.
Applicants must be 21 or older and comfortable navigating steep, natural terrain, as our grounds are not fully accessible. Artists must bring their own supplies and cover their transportation costs to the preserve. We seek artists who are deeply connected to nature and passionate about the conservation of wild spaces. In addition to their creative work, residents will contribute to the community by offering a talk, workshop, demonstration, or other form of programming for visitors. Artists with experience in community engagement and innovative approaches to connecting people with art and nature are especially encouraged to apply.
If you are an artist looking for a retreat into nature to explore, create, and share your work in a meaningful way, we invite you to apply.
