Wilderness Discovery Program

and Volunteer Conservation Crew

The Graylag Wilderness Discovery Program offers a unique opportunity for high school students to develop a love of nature while exploring the beautiful and vibrant ecosystem of Graylag Nature Preserve. This 2-day, 2-night program (July 13-15) for high school students ages 14 and up provides an innovative combination of place-based wilderness discovery and leadership development.

Students will spend their time hiking, canoeing, and exploring Graylag’s property. Each student will play an active role in meal preparation and clean up, and preparing for and leading events such as hikes, campfires, and group discussions. The four overnights will be split between two nights in cabins and two nights camping in tents.

After the completion of the program, participants are encouraged to join our volunteer trail crew one day/week at Graylag and other non-profit sites in our communities. Summer volunteer days are Fridays in July and August; additional volunteer opportunities may be available in the fall. Those who accomplish their volunteering goal are eligible to receive a refund of 100% of the camp program cost.
