Meet Julianne Warren

We are happy to have Julianne Warren as a member of our 2026 Artist in Residency program! She will be joining us in October, and hosting a program with us, so stay tuned for more information in the future.

Julianne listens for how land and story meet, for who is lost and found here. Julianne (she/Dr.) is a genre-fluid writer, educator, and community-builder with an MFA in creative writing and a Ph.D. in ecology. She is amid deep revisioning of her settler ontology, a noticeable transformation ongoing throughout her body of works. Her creative works and multi-media writings are published in edited volumes and magazines, most recently in Arcadia and Chapter House Journal. She has performed elements from her echoEscape sound art series and had elements curated in venues from Middlebury College to The Gary Snyder Center in Changsha, and from The Lost and Found Archive in Amsterdam to the Deutsches Museum in Munich. On the more scholarly side, she is the author of “Alaska” Is Not a Blank Space: Unsettling Aldo Leopold’s Odyssey (Cambridge University Press, 2025) and Aldo Leopold’s Odyssey: Rediscovering the Author of A Sand County Almanac (2nd ed., Island Press, 2016).  She lives and works in Fairbanks, Alaska and in New York City—unceded, traditional territories of the lower Tanana Dene Peoples and  the Lenape Peoples, respectively.
