Lumen Printing
with Artist in Residence Shaina Gates
Lumen printing is a captivating camera-less photographic technique that transforms light-sensitive paper into vivid, often unexpected colors when exposed to sunlight.
Unlike the crisp blue tones of cyanotypes, lumen prints can yield soft washes of pinks, golds, purples, and earthy browns – each image shaped by the length of exposure, the objects placed on the paper, and the chemistry of the fixer. The results are part science, part art, and entirely magical. In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn about the materials, process, and science behind lumen printing before heading outdoors to create their own images inspired by Graylag’s natural surroundings. No experience is needed, and all materials will be provided. Open to ages 14+. Registration full — add your name to the wait list.

Where: Graylag Nature Preserve, 320 Clough Road, Pittsfield, NH. We will meet at Midway Cabin.
